    Smeg A1-9 Opera

    Smeg A1-9 Opera

It wouldn’t be a top 10 cooker range without the inclusion of a Smeg, and while this model doesn’t give users the traditional range setup and design, it will definitely be a better fit for some people.
It has 115 litres of capacity altogether, providing you with room for even the largest of items. It comes with 11 cooking functions that offer pre-sets for specific food, as well as a rotisserie for any chicken lovers out there.
Made entirely from one piece of top quality 18/10 steel, it follows the design of other Opera products with a streamlined hob but chunky oven and feet accents. A Vapour Clean setting and enamel interior keeps it looking and feeling like new on the inside, so any burnt on bits are quickly removed.
Eclipse glass is a great addition in our minds. When the oven is cool and off, the glass appears black, yet transparent when it is on. This allows you to safely see whether there is any residual heat, or if you have accidentally left it on/turned it on. As well, there’s triple glazed doors, and the fan cooling system keeps them cool to touch at all times.

    KENWOOD CK407G

    KENWOOD CK407G

With two ovens, you can make two separate dishes at the same time without having to cook one beforehand and keep one warm.
The main oven is nice and spacious, with a large 67 litres capacity. And while the second is technically the backup section, there is still 47 litres inside which makes it larger than a lot of other single ovens out there.
The hob contains five burners, including a larger zone in the centre for woks or big frying pans which can accommodate all of your fry-up ingredients at once. Both chambers have catalytic liners, so they’ll just require a wipe down every so often, and the doors drop down so you won’t have to worry about what is at either side.
Other bonuses include telescopic legs, a timer and cast iron pan supports. It is a great unit for the price, and would be way at the top of the list if it had an extra small chamber.

If you are looking for a solid gas range cooker then you should consider the Belling range. It is available in black and stainless steel and is easy to use, also coming in at one of the best prices vs. what you get for your money.
It has everything we look for in a range cooker, from a choice of four cavities to a large, spacious hob area which gives you plenty of room to boil, fry and sear to your hearts content. Near the centre is a larger wok burner for bigger pans, which also offers higher heats for frying and oriental cooking.

    Stoves Richmond Deluxe S900G

It fits into a smaller kitchen with a width of less than 90cm, so gives you all of the benefits without the huge dimensions. Despite it being easier to accommodate into your home, this sleek invention still boasts a 59 litre capacity in the main oven and 79 litres in the other.
You also still get the powerful hob burners, with five spaces as well as a griddle pan. The raised pan supports allow you to glide pans across the hob and move them to a cooler or more powerful space, without having to lift them and dangerously prepare the area.

How to Buy the Best Gas Range Cooker

These range cookers combine a gas hob surface with gas oven chambers. Generally, they come in a bigger size and offer a lot of capacity with at least three cooking compartments to choose from. There may also be a separate grill and a warming drawer. Hob-wise, there is usually at least five, with wok burners and grill pans available.

    • Capacity – Range cookers generally offer a larger capacity. Work out what you require by assessing both your everyday cooking and any special occasions, and buy the perfect oven that easily fits in everything that you need.
    • Dimensions – It’s no good choosing a huge cooker if you can’t fit into your kitchen. They are available in various widths, most commonly 90cm, 100cm and 110cm. If you need something smaller, a traditional gas oven will be the best bet.
    • Efficiency – You should look out for the A rated energy efficient cookers that use less energy. You don’t want to waste any heat or unnecessarily use more than you need, which could also add to your bills.
    • Cleaning – The whole point of choosing this type of appliance is to make your life easier and that is why we recommend finding one that has a self cleaning mode (such as Vapour cleaning) or at least possesses enamel or Catalytic liners that are easy to wipe clean. Also check the hob – ensure it would be easy to clean if there are any spills.
    • Grill – Generally a grill is merely a setting available to you by choosing the grill setting in a main cavity. But range cookers often offer a dedicated grilling chamber, so check if this is something you desire.
    • Added Features – We don’t all need the mod-cons and added features but when investing lots of money it is always nice to enjoy some bonus functions sure to make our lives easier. As you have seen, range cookers offer more than standard cookers as standard, but there may also be Bluetooth control, grill pans or specialised settings such as pizza or rotisserie.
    • Warming Drawer – Often the fourth cavity, this is a small drawer which can keep food warm, heat plates before serving or else keep oven trays and other bits safe in one place.

    How Much to Spend

If you’re lucky you will find a range cooker for around £600-£700, but generally they are in the region of £1500-£2000. We have put our resources into finding cookers that reflect their price tag and offer great value, so those at the lower end of the price scale are worthy of their place, and those at the higher end offer enough to justify the extra spend.

Depending on what it is you are looking for, the price will change. More than five burners or extra pre-set functions will cost more. You should however bear in mind that these cookers have been made to last and many of them are used to prepare delicious meals for decades.
